On behalf of Ori Tahiti San Diego we are proud to host our 6th annual
Ori Tahiti San Diego Tahitian Solo Competition on Saturday March 14, 2020
Ori Tahiti San Diego began in 2015.  The event has steadily grown these past 5 years.  It has been both Johnny and Angel Case’s vision, love and appreciation of Tahitian Culture and dance since 2005 to bring a Tahitian Dance Solo Competition to their hometown of San Diego, California.  They traveled extensively with both of their children and their family over the past 23 years and have either attended or participated in solo and group competitions all over California, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Tahiti.

With the support of their family, their former dance group
LEIISA and their partnership with SDSU’s Pacific Islander Organization thru former
President Sydney Strom Ori Tahiti San Diego came to life at SDSUs Montezuma Hall.
Ori Tahiti San Diego is the 1st in Southern California to offer 3 categories a Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced category.  Our goal is to make sure each dancer at any level would have the opportunity to compete against dancers at similar skill levels.  This would hopefully provide the dancer the confidence to continue dancing, build on their skills/technique and prepare to compete at future competitions.  Since our solo competition is one of the 1st competitions at the beginning of year and before the competition season begins our costume criteria is simple. We do not include a costume category for the judges therefore the dancer is not judged on costume, but overall appearance does matter.  We want our judges to focus on the dancer’s skill/technique, knowledge of their Tahitian basics, and creativity.
Our event would not be possible without the countless volunteers who have believed in the vision of our event and have supported us. It is because of their generosity to donate their time they have helped shape Ori Tahiti San Diego into what it has become.   Lastly we are so grateful for Auntie Riki and Tiana Liufau of Nonosina who have been our judges from the very beginning.  Their support and their expertise has been such a blessing to us and our event.
Our event and participation is open to all. We hope that you have the opportunity to join us at Ori Tahiti San Diego 2020 and celebrate with us our 6th annual event!
